Director of Care, High-Crest Sherbrooke
Gerry is the Director of Care at High-Crest Sherbrooke, a 39-bed nursing home. He is responsible for leading the nursing and care team. He oversees the delivery of resident-centered care, supports staff development, ensures regulatory compliance, and promotes a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Gerry provides leadership and direction to nursing and care staff, maintains relationships with residents, families, and healthcare professionals, and collaborates closely with the administrator and interdisciplinary team to support the safe and effective operation of the home.
Gerry brings over twelve years of healthcare experience, with a diverse clinical background spanning long-term care, acute care, corrections, and public health. His previous roles include Assistant Director of Care, Clinical Educator, and Acute Care Unit Manager. He also has a strong background in computer and electronics technology, with prior experience as an IT Service Manager and Nova Scotia Community College Instructor.
Gerry holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Dalhousie University. He has completed leadership training for Long-Term Care Managers and holds advanced certification in Momentum CIVICA systems.
Gerry is actively involved in several key committees and initiatives, including Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS), Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), and InterRAI behavioural teams. He also has a strong interest in medical research and has participated in Alberta Patient Engagement Platform (AbSPORU) initiatives.
Outside of work, Gerry enjoys fishing and camping in the summer, and in the winter he keeps up with the latest developments in computer technology, including encryption, networking, and artificial intelligence.
